Lucid Dreaming | Puzzling WILD issue

I'm back boyssss!!
Anyways... Pretty much 100% of my WILD attempts (save 1) have resulted in this weird state which I'll describe. My body's numb but I'm positive it's not SP, just very relaxed muscles. And my mind is also very calm (I've gotten good at it). However, I could lie there for 36 hours and I'll never hit SP or get HI or any sensation. What happens over and over and over is I'll start to have a train of thought that I can't control kind of like a half dream, then after a few seconds I'll snap back to awareness then it happens again 30seconds later. Over and over and over. Whenever this "snap" happens though, I immediately feel my body deepen its relaxation, but it never reaches SP. I can always tell that I can still move easily. :( halp me

From the Desk of John Rourke – June 1st, 2015

Reader sent in this story about a low flying plane seen above Minneapolis, the Mall of America, and the Southdale Center recently. This plane flew very low for several hours.

Many are concerned that this could be terrorists looking for a target or in planning mode. Similar flights have been seen all over the country and reported.

Probably nothing. Maybe.

Took my buddy to the range Saturday. This guy had never shot a gun before – ever. Prior to entering the range with ears on I went over safety rules, range rules, and the components of a pistol. All my pistols are autoloaders and operate very similarly. He did a great job and showed safety tremendous respect. He said he had a ball.

His favorite pistol to shoot was the Canik TP9SA 9mm.  I am still reviewing this pistol and will bring you the full results soon.

The Next Large-Scale Crisis to Hit the US & World…

The water crisis in California continues to get worse and worse. Water is likely the most critical and often overlooked prep. The following was originally published HERE over at the Wolf-Fire Firearms Instruction blog.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *

by Dave Wolf

As you read the news reports from all over the globe, it’s easy to see the bad news pouring in.  There are reports of Jihadist Terrorist, Ebola Virus outbreaks, Measles spreading, influx of Illegal Aliens and the Economy is still failing in many parts of the world; but one devastating issue that will be arriving which will decimate whole countries and populations is basically being ignored.  I for one did not realize just how serious this issue had become until I conducted a little research on my own.  Never trust your government when they tell you that everything is OK.

This one issue will cause massive litigation and deadly wars in the very near future.  This crisis is the simple fact the supply of potable water is becoming very scarce at an alarming rate.  The massive and expensive litigation regarding Water Rights, Usage Permits, and Re-Distributions have already begun in California, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Colorado, and other states.  With the massive influx of new people, both legal and illegal, there simply is not enough water for everyone, every farm, and every head of cattle.  Some farmers who have had a long standing agreement with municipalities for water have found themselves cut off from water that once flowed from the Colorado River.  The city and county managers have simply chosen to ignore their formal, legal and binding agreements and diverted the scarce amount of water to the residents of their elected areas.  With these choices, farmers are unable to grow the normal amount of crops; the ranchers are unable to raise cattle which they were able to do in years past.  Thus, these choices have a negative impact on the American people in the form of much higher prices across the board for produce and meat prices.

earth20140225-full

As bad as this increase in prices are, it’s nothing compared to the prospect of clean water supplies running out for personal consumption.  Many local lawmakers have already issued bans on using water for lawns, washing cars, and other outdoor activities. The local and state government’s next step is to begin rationing the supply of water to residents and businesses.  In line with this, several states, such as Oregon has established laws which state rain-water is community property and thus illegal to utilize any method of gathering water or snow runoff for personal use of any kind, including watering livestock or gardens.  Imagine, if you have any open container which happens to catch rainfall in your yard, purposefully or not, you will be fined for gathering what falls out of the sky.

The US is not alone in the coming water crisis.  Brazilian residents have begun storing water inside their homes in anticipation of the Federal Government beginning rationing water which could leave their taps dry for 5 days per week.  The Government is looking at these drastic steps as the water reservoir for Brazil’s largest city, Sao Paulo, is only at 6% of capacity.  The rationing is expected to last throughout the intense hot summer months until the rainy season arrives again, sometime in October.

drought

In recent years, I have visited several countries in the Europe and Middle East; they too are experiencing the same types of water shortages.  Some of which are the result of infrastructure failure due to war or collapse of the governments.  But the bottom line is water is not available to residents on a regular basis.  In one country I visited, the local residents receive water for 1 to 2 hours every third or fourth day.  To their credit, the local lawmakers have not set themselves up to receive more water than the average citizen.  Everyone is equal in this plight.

For those who are reliant on local municipalities for potable water supply and waste water service, this will have a direct impact on your family.  It is anticipated that most local governments across the US are exploring ways to reduce water consumption.  This will range from banning outside watering, including gardens, to significantly raising water usage fees, to shutting off the flow of water to entire neighborhoods and developments on a rotating basis.

Those with water wells will not be immune from this crisis either. Yes, you will have as much water as you can pump from your well, but with the water source buried, sometimes hundreds of feet underground, you will be unable to see or determine if your supply is running low due to the decreased rainfall in your area.  When your water source dries up, most people’s only recourse may be to have a new well drilled, at a very hefty and unexpected cost of several thousands of dollars, or to hook up to the local municipal water source at a very high cost, sometimes as high as $50,000, depending on the local fees.

I’m not here to provide the answer to this world-wide problem, merely to bring this looming crisis to light and to promote each of you to consider what your options are or could be.  My thoughts are if entire countries are not able to sustain water requirements through rainfall, do you think you will be capable of providing enough water for your family using the same methods? Will you be capable of storing enough water for an extended period of time during a drought?  How long will your swimming pool water supply the entire community with clean potable water?  Each of these methods will help, but they will not be able to furnish everyone with the number one substance required to sustain life.  In our time of excess and plentiful water, take the required time to determine what to do when the spigot runs dry and little Johnny or little Janey looks at you and ask for something to drink.

From the Desk of John Rourke – May 29th, 2015

Happy Birthday Mom. You are missed so much.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

There was quite a response on the guest post yesterday A Basic Bug-In Plan.  Both D. and author Jonathan Hollerman chimed in opposition to the article. Others were very supportive. Figured I would provide my own take.

I think preppers prepare for one reason – to live. It’s really that simple. They want to live. They want their family and maybe friends to be safe and secure.  Sometimes that outlook that something bad may happen so we will just “prepare” for it clouds our senses of reality. Guess what…..things will not always work out no matter what kind of preparation are made ahead of time.

Hate to be a downer but I continue…..

I think the article offers many great preparedness suggestions and ideas. What I have issue with is the premise that bugging in during a SHTF/WROL situation within a major city is OK and a good idea. It’s not. Now – it very well might be the best you can do and if that is the case just understand it. If you are surrounded by a panicked population of unprepared people, well, that is a recipe for disaster. The best idea would be to relocate.

Reality Check: This “SHTF” situation the author mentions and many of us prepare for? Well – it may not ever happen. That is the truth. Within each of our lifetime things just might end up palm trees and ocean breeze. Then again…..it may not. Thus – we prepare for the unknown.

A Basic Bug-In Plan” provides great preparation ideas for the right scenarios. If everyone in the country took the author’s advice we as a nation would be much more prepared than we currently are.

D. and Jonathan’s comments may seem a little brash or harsh. Yeah – I would agree with that but the question is are they accurate?

I believe they are based on the criteria the author sets up right from the start of the article. If I lived in a city the size mentioned in the article my plan would be to get out. In a city with half a million starving people having no idea where their next meal is coming from would not be where I would want to be.

Take the good ideas from the article and leave the rest.

Appreciate EVERYONE who commented.

From the Desk of John Rourke – May 28th, 2015

I have found Facebook as a very useful tool for finding great deals on used stuff. I belong to several area groups targeting general merchandise or firearms. Keeping an eye on deals will bring up a great bargain once in a while. Don’t use Facebook? No problem. That is a choice everyone makes for themselves.

Appreciate the responses to my question about Rock Island 1911’s. I am not a huge fan of 1911’s but saw one at my local shop and it caught my eye. I believe this is the model:

51488_1911-a1_tac_ultra_ms_45acp_2-450x300

I have owned a Kimber and a Para but am just so used to polymer frame pistols I have continued to stay loyal to them. But hey -I am not opposed to expanding my horizons.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

The recent article on “Rugged Vehicles” sure did generate a lot of discussion which is great. Capt. mentioned mountain bikes. I own four mountain bikes plus a road bike. Great mode of local transportation without the need for fuel other than calories for energy.

Another fantastic mode of transportation is the use of mopeds/scooters. These things are inexpensive and get incredible gas mileage. When a gallon of gas is a rare commodity being able to travel 50-80 miles with it certainly is beneficial.

A Basic Bug-In Plan

Rourke: This post was originally published HERE on ModernSurvivalOnline.com.

by Jon in Colorado Springs

All you ever read about is bugging out, and bugging-out if the ‘’Stuff Hits The Fan’’ or ‘’It’s The End Of The World As We Know It. Whether your plan is to bug-out to your second home in the country, your cousin’s farm that you visited once when you were eleven, or some random spot in a national forest somewhere I hope you can get there.  I will admit I wish I had a second home to go to, but that is not an option for most household incomes! Yes I do have some rural places to go to in a few states and even private land that I could park my camper on if I bug-out. I live in Colorado so I could go to the National Forrest and set up camp somewhere, hopefully. All three are great ideas if you know for sure that  you can get out of town. The county I live in has a population of 620,000, so imagine just one third of these people trying to get out of town at once. It could be impossible to leave the city for days. There will be horrific traffic jams with very angry people that want to get their families out of dodge no matter the cost. Massive road rage will most likely take over the normally peaceful driver who is in such a panic that he will push you off the road, shoot you, or whatever it may take to get in front of you. The ditches will be full of broken down vehicles, wrecks and people begging you to let them ride with you or to take their children with you.

Nope, that is not something anyone would want to put their family through, especially me. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a bug-out plan, but my bug-in plan may be more important and you should have one as well.  In the event of a worldly, domestic, or catastrophic event, grocery stores could run out food in 3-4 days and the same with fuel at gas stations. NO Diesel NO Food! Remember that! Do you have these basics items; 1-3 year supply of food, guns, ammo,  garden, first aid, water, a secure home, wood burning stove, friends, you get the idea. These are just a few basic items that everyone should have at their home, but you should make a list of everything that you would want at your home in the event of a collapse. Unless there is a poisoned gas cloud coming my way I will most likely be bugging in for a few days, or years. Well this may seem a little over whelming, but let’s take a look at some basic prepping items that are affordable and easy to obtain.

Unless you are new to prepping, then you know that food and water is the first thing you should have on your bug-in list. If you are on a tight budget like we are, you cannot afford to go spend 2-3k on a garage full of freeze dried food and grains. What we have done is started tracking how long it takes us to consume our normal grocery store items on our calendar. By tracking these items and buying extras at bulk prices at Sams and Costco you will have a 1 year supply of food for a family of 4 within a few months! One thing you can do to get a month’s  worth of food for under a $100 is to go to your big bulk store and buy one large bag of dried beans, one large bag of dried rice, a couple of cases of canned vegetables, and some noodles or Ramen noodles. Most noodles, beans, rice, and canned food have a good shelf life and if stored in a very cool, dry place will last even longer than expiration dates. Canned tuna in oil is cheap with a long shelf life and the oils can be drained to cook other foods.  Now you have an emergency food stash that has a good shelf life, not too bad to eat, and very affordable. Start watching for sales at the grocery store for canned food, clip coupons, go on double coupon days and you will have a hundred cans of food before you know it. Now that you get the idea on starting your food bank also you will want to have cooking oil, sugar, salt and other spices in stock to help keep your recipes from being the same every meal. Don’t forget to rotate and start eating the food that is about to expire or donate it to local food banks.  A 2-3 year supply of the food you use every day could be stocked very quickly, but do start buying grains and freeze dried food if you can afford it.

Learn how to grow a garden and start learning how to can your food. When I was a kid we seldom bought a vegetable from the store for we always had a can of something from the garden. Dig a cellar to preserve carrots and other long shelf life vegetables. Protect your garden from animals, both 4 and 2 legged. I think razor wire is nice for garden protection. Also think about a hail storm coming down in June when the garden is about ready to produce and ruining everything. A full ½ x ½ wire net for a roof will protect from hail and animals as well. Make sure your garden net will hold the weight of a large hail storm or snow. In addition, stock up on seeds, they are cheap and could feed you for life.

For a family of 4 you will consume somewhere around 700-800 gallons of drinking water a year, that’s a lot of bottled water! Now if you know the water supply is going to stop any minute start filling up every container, glass, coffee cup, bowl, cooler, and bucket right away. Stock what you can, but you will need to have rain barrels and filters to make sure you have enough to keep you alive. Read up on water storage, well digging, cisterns, solar stills, and rain water collecting to be ultimately prepared.  Without water we are dead! You will also need water for cleaning dishes, if you can build a stock of paper plates, bowls, and plastic silverware that will help keep your water use down. Baths will have to be minimal with shared water from a tub using a wash cloth with very little soap. Save baths for when it rains or try to bathe in a nearby  creek  or lake.

First aid and medical preparedness is just as important as water storage. Stock up on basic medicines, bandages, first aid cream, antibiotic ointment, feminine hygiene products, and prescription drugs. The way to stock up on prescription drugs is to refill them a few days before you run out of them and that way  you can save a few a month’s supply or talk to your doctor about a having an emergency supply.  I hope I never have to eat a cat, but if I do I want to have plenty of antacids on hand. If you are using your food bank and scrounging for food, you might need some antacids and other digestive medicines to help you with your new diet of rice and rats. Multi vitamins are a must have, even if you do not take them now. Since fresh food could be hard to come by, a vitamin deficiency could be possible. Ask your doctor what he thinks will be best for you and your family based on your medical history before taking any medications or vitamins.  We got some vitamins from a health food store for our kids with the directions saying take 2 a day. I took the bottle to our doctor, and he said 1 a day would be better for our kids. So learn what you will need to do when your body starts going though changes from a new diet. Immediate diet changes can be bad for your health, especially if you are not healthy now. Talking to your now doctor could be vital to your survival.

Something that I have never heard of anyone preparing for in their home is a sewage back up. If the water supply has stopped, I seriously doubt that the city sewer workers are going to be around to make sure everything else will be flowing. Without the normal waste water from washing dishes and taking baths the sewage pipes will quickly clog with human waste and debris. After a clog is formed the sewage pressure that can build up and it can come into your home through your sinks and toilets, filling your entire home with raw sewage. Talk about stuff hitting the fan! This could ruin all that you have including food and water storage. You would have to move out of your home for it would be ruined! Unless the insurance companies still exist and you have the proper flood and drain coverage on your homeowner’s policy you could be out of luck. Have a plumber come to your home and prepare you for an emergency sewage blocker. He may not be able to install one do to local codes, but he could provide you with an idea that prepares you to stop a sewage back flow.  In addition, you should know how to turn your water and gas off inside your home from the main lines. If you do still have running water but do not have enough heat for your home then you may have to worry about a busted water pipe flooding your home.  However, knowing how to shut the water off from the main line can help prevent this disaster!

Guns, if you do not have one then you need to get one and start learning how to shoot now! They will save you and your family’s life and property. Stock up on plenty of ammo, 5-6000 rounds is a good amount to have. Used 22 Rifles are cheap and the rounds are even cheaper. If I had to pick one gun for life, I would pick a single shot, bolt action 22. There are few parts on a bolt action 22 and if you are a good shot you can drop any animal 2 or 4 legged with a good head shot. A good 12 gauge shotgun and larger rifle like a 30-06 should be added to your arsenal with a few handguns like a 44mag or 45acp as well. A good AR style rifle in a 223 or a 7.63 x 39 round is a great defense gun to have for your home. You do not need 100 guns to survive, just a few, plenty of ammo, replacement parts and, how-to-repair them books. If you want multiple guns, buy the same exact models so if breaks you can use it for parts to fix the other one. Learn how to shoot the guns you have, if you are not a good shot now, chances are you will not be a good shot when you need to kill the cat in your yard for food or to defend yourself from an intruder. Learn to hunt, trap, fish for food and tan hides to trade. Learn to use every part of the animal, for that cat you killed in your front yard might be the start of a good fur coat.

For your home, have security bars ready to be installed on all windows and doors. Wood pallets can be picked up for free at many places if you look for them and there are many uses for them if you take them apart. I will have window barricades from used wood pallets with a steel backing to install from the inside of my home. It would be nice to have these window barricades so they are bullet proof and easy to shoot from, steel can get a little pricey though. Old car doors and hoods could be used to cover windows and doors as well.  The barricades will be set in tracks or hinged so they can be moved to still get the use of a window or door. A 6’ privacy fence would be good to have now because you can add to it later if you need to. I plan to have used wood pallets to build my existing fence higher and harder to climb over from outside the fence. Try to secure your home the best you can without making your home look like a target for would be criminals. If your house looks like it is really worth breaking into someone will drive a truck through it so his 20 buddies outside can come in and over take you. Have one or two friends or family members that will move in with you for help with all of this work and to have another sharp shooter in the house. And  any one that will move into your home should have the same amount of food and water as you have.

How are you going to heat your home if the gas and electricity quit flowing? I have a wood burning fire place now, but I also have a used wood burning stove in my shed ready to install to help heat both floors and to cook on if needed. You will need to know how much firewood it would take to keep your home warm for an entire winter, so practice heating your home during the winter without other means and track how much fire wood you are using. Once again, used wood pallets make great fire wood when broken down. We are building an outdoor fire place, grill, and smoker to use for outdoor cooking out of river rocks that we have been collecting the last few years. An outdoor cooking area will keep your home cooler in the summer. Make sure your attic is well insulated. That will keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Want air conditioning? Forget about it, you have better chance of dying from hypothermia than from heat stroke. Air conditioners are not even 200 years old; heat has been used since the beginning of mankind.  Look into geo-thermal cooling if you really want to cool the home down a bit in the summer. There are solar heaters and furnaces that you could fabricate yourself from junk windows and glass. Learn how to make one or go buy modern ones now if you can.

Where are you going to store all of this stuff that you are collecting? Building a shed from used wood pallets will only cost you some nails and screws.  Start by leveling the ground and placing pallets in a square or triangle. Fasten the pallets together using boards from pallets you have already torn apart and nails or screws.  Use the same method to build the walls using torn apart pallets to secure everything together, but leave room for a door. Make a simple roof that slants to one side only by making one wall one foot higher than the other so it will be easier to build and collect rain water. You can make a door out of used pallets as well. Now to cover the walls you can take apart longer pallets to use as over lapping siding panels, or buy siding to match your house and install. If you can find a local roofing contractor or roofing supplier you can get used or damaged roofing materials to use or just buy new materials to match your house. I was able to get the used materials from a metal roof that was being replaced to cover my walls and roof for free. There are some plans available on the internet that will give you better details and ideas on how to build a pallet shed. The uses of wood pallets are almost unlimited; you could build a chicken coup, outhouse, dog house, and spare room or create more roof space for collecting rain water.

What you have just read is a good basic “starter kit” for bugging in. Get a note pad and start writing down the things you would like to have in your possession in bulk and not just the items I talked about. Make your own list of items for you and your family! You will still need to have a good bug-out plan and how to get you and all your possessions to where you are going. Start reading blog and web sites, books, and magazines to help you prepare for bugging –in or out. Buy used materials to help make your home more secure and keep an eye open for free materials on Craigslist and in the newspaper. Go to Goodwill and buy extra clothes and keep the ones you have. Extra cloth may be hard to come by someday. Learn how to grow a garden in your region by taking a gardening class. Learn how to shoot by taking a gun safety class and take self defense classes. I am only offering a small but practical bit of advice to help you start a bug-in plan, so be prepared and start prepping now. Be ready to live life not as you know it now, but like they did in the old days where you worked all day just to eat the next. Have the tools you will need to survive and know how to use them. Practice and preparation could save time, money, and maybe even your life in the event of bug-in scenario.  We never know if The End of The World AS We Know It will happen or when, but I want you to be ready.

Video of the Week: Taurus PT-111 G2 9mm pistol review – BUDGET!

video-of-the-week

YouTube is an absolutely incredible source of information on almost anything you can think of. Every week we feature a new video related to a variety of topics such as firearms, first aid, gardening, security, food storage, water filtration….and current events.

I have heard from many people over the last couple years that Taurus is crap. Most of these reports are based on what people have “heard” or been told by friends. The reality is every gun manufacturer has quality issues – even Colt, even Glock, even Daniel Defense. I won’t even begin to say that Taurus doesn’t have issues all I can comment on is my direct experience with Taurus firearms.

Currently this offering is available from several online retailers for less than $200. Yes – less than $200.  The experience I have had with Taurus has been very positive. Lifetime warranty is good but should not be needed(that is a big SHOULD).

Check it out…..

Lucid Dreaming | The evasive subconscious?

Hey all.

I have noticed unusual dream behaviour in the last 2 weeks and wanted to run it by the forum to get opinions on what’s happening.

Ok so I’ve been doing a dream diary for about 6 weeks and in that period have had 6 very low level lucid dreams with little control or losing lucidity quickly. After doing the diary for a while, I was watching a YouTube vid where a lucid dreamer pointed out that one of the great things about the dream diary is that the studying of it will reveal very significant ‘patterns’ or events, which can then be used as dream signs that can help with attaining lucidity.

So one of the VERY OBVIOUS scenarios I have is;

I’m on a London red bus, the ones with 2 floors, that stop every few hundred yards to pick up passengers. Suddenly the bus starts driving crazy speed, and swerving all over the place damaging cars and nearly hitting people until eventually there is a major crash, such as the bus going over a bridge, or toppling onto its side, or plunging into a lake etc, most of the accidents end with the bus landing on its side, and I usually escape a split second before the accident or if I don’t escape, I’m unharmed anyway.

I knew I had these dreams regularly but seeing it on paper just showed just how much. Often I am on a bus but there is no incident. So now I’m onto the dream, and therefore have started to Reality Check while taking the bus to and from work every day, and am trying to remember that if I find myself on a speeding bus, then I should do a reality check. These dreams occur at least twice a week sometimes more than that.

But guess what? Since I realised this about 2 weeks ago, I have not had one single bus dream, either that or I am not remembering them. Not only that, instead I’ve been having dreams where I’m traveling on a ‘COACH’ (not Red London buses, but the ones that take you from big city to big city, or small town to small town etc.) AND, these coaches are traveling very slowly, hardly any speed, not swerving and no possibility of an accident: I’m laughing right now as I think about this. It’s almost as though the subconscious is playing a game of ‘avoidance’, preventing the usual action-movie crazy bus scenario, and giving me the slow bus ride along quiet country roads to prevent me from becoming lucid now the cat’s out of the bag. The human mind is ‘Freakin Amazing’…

This reminds me of a comment in a book I’ve been reading called Liber Null & Psychonaut. It talks about something called the Psychic Censor, which makes it hard for us to be aware of irregular mental states or psychic/mental anomalies. Here’s what it says in a nutshell;

The Psychic Censor shields us from the intrusions of other realities. It edits out most telepathic communications, blinds us to prescience and reduces our ability to register significant coincidences, or recall dreams. The psychic censor is not just put there out of divine malice; ordinary physical life would be impossible without it. It would be like living permanently under the influence of hallucinogens.

Is this what’s going on in my subconscious? Is it trying to reinforce the boundaries between waking reality and dream reality to keep me from being confused? Just some food for thought. Would love to hear your ideas.

Lucid Dreaming | I witnessed how a dream starts!

Hi dreamers!

I tried wake-back-to-bed last night, and witnessed how a dream starts from sleep paralysis. I couldn't see anything at first (pitch black during sleep paralysis), but it started to become brighter and brighter as black turned into white. When the brightness reached its climax, it faded from the middle and I found myself dreaming.

Has anyone experience this?
How do your dreams start?

From the Desk of John Rourke – May 27th, 2015

Not sure if was just me or maybe where I hang out and the people I am with but this past Memorial Day seemed more celebrated than past ones. I saw more American flags and colors than usual. Either way – it was good.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Anyone have experience with Rock Island Armory 1911’s?

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Via Breitbart.com“Republican Party 2016 primary frontrunner Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker told Breitbart News exclusively that if the invasion of illegal aliens that’s currently swarming across America’s southern border were coming in via America’s sea ports, the government would be sending in the Navy to stop it. Instead, the federal government—despite not having to at all—chooses, he says, to leave the U.S. border with Mexico wide open.”

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Garden is well under way. I planted a little less than normal however I may throw in some additional tomato plants. The long growing season here in the South make food production from gardening plentiful.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

GearBest.com has a huge sale going on today and tomorrow. They carry a ton of unique electronic items including some awesome flashlights. The Sunwayman C22C which had a review article published here today came from there. Really interesting website. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I am looking.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Here is something maybe we should be stocking up on:

Flashlight Review: The Sunwayman C22C

I am a flashlight junkie. With the continued improvements in LED technology and power efficiencies lights are getting more powerful and and lasting longer. This bodes well for those of us who prepare for power failures and grid down events.

I received an offer to review the Sunwayman C22C from GearBest.com. It was provided to me free of charge to perform test and evaluation. When I review a piece of equipment I review it honestly regardless of how it was acquired. Let me go ahead tell you right now – I have been extremely impressed with the C22C.

1427305094417-P-2505837

Over the past two months I have used this light for a variety of things including general around-the-house stuf, backyard “something went bump in the night”, thrown in my Jeep’s center console, dropped a few times, etc. It has held up perfectly and still looks and performs like new.

Here are the specs from the GearBest.com website:

● Main light Cree XM-L2 U2 LED, side Light Cree XP-G2 R5 LED, with a lifetime of up to 50000 hours
● Slightly depress the side switch to turn on / off the flashlight as well as selecting desired output mode
Main white light: Turbo (1000 lumens, automatically lower to high after 3 mins continuous use); high (580 lumens, 2 hrs ); mid (130 lumens, 10 hrs ); low (35 lumens, 30 hrs ); strobe; SOS;
Neutral white side light: High (180 lumens, 3 hrs.) – mid (46 lumens, 9 hrs) – low (16 lumens, 45 hrs); strobe; SOS
● Powerful magnet built at the tail to ensure easy-stand of the light on any iron surface
● Tungsten steel spike at the end of the tailcap can be used for emergencies
● Constant current circuit, constant output
● Effective range of 208 meters
● Uses one single 18650 or two CR123A batteries
● Working voltage: 2.8 – 8.4V
● High quality metal smooth reflector for main light maintains great throw distance and spread with an ideal beam pattern; side light uses optical lens
● Dimensions: 110mm (length) x 28mm (head diameter) x 25mm (tailed diameter)
● Weight: 88g(battery excluded)
● Aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, stainless steel retaining ring on the top
● Military specification type III-hard anodized body
● Waterproof: IPX-8 standard
● Ultra-clear tempered glass lens resists scratches and impacts
● Tactical forward click switch for momentary on

Fit, Feel and Construction: To be honest I like flashlights that just turn On and Off without all the fancy strobe modes and multiple brightness levels. With the Sunwayman C22C the different modes of operation are available but up to the user to access them. I found it easy to simply turn it on – use it at full brightness – and shut it off. Next time I turned it on it came on with the last mode used.

image (14)

The C22C is built extremely well. It is not feather light like some multi-pack flashlights I have bought at SAM’s but not overly heavy either. It feels rugged and secure in the hand. Both of the lens look crystal clear and the LED’s are centered perfect. The button feels the same today after being activated hundreds of times as it did the day it arrived.

IMG_20150421_201838

Unique with the C22C is the dual output capability – meaning it has two LED’s built in. One of the LED’s illuminates out the top while the other to the side. At first I was unsure the point of this feature. After using it however I understood completely. The flashlight can be used like a normal light using the front LED with a deeply penetrating beam. Switch to the side LED and you get a flood of bright light illuminating a wide area. The two lights compliment each other and provide the user options. They both work very well.

image (18)

Interesting it the incorporation of tungsten steel spikes on the battery compartment cap. This is supposed to be used to break glass in case of a vehicle entrapment. I never tried them but not sure how effective they would be. Certainly would be better than trying to punch through a window.

image (22)

The Sunwayman C22C has a very strong and sturdy belt clip included with the light. Excellent for attaching to the inside of a pocket or inside a bag. Notice I said “inside” as I would never rely on this type of attachment on the outside of a pack as eventually it may work its way loose and then “gone”  – no C22C. Regardless – the clip is excellent.

There is also a hole in the end cap for attachment of a lanyard.

IMG_20150421_201113

Very useful is the magnetic end cap. One evening I used this light to change the spark plugs on my wife’s Expedition and mounted the on the hood. I activated the flood light and it lit up the entire engine compartment.

image (16)

The C22C is powered by either one single 18650 battery or two CR123 lithium ion batteries. I chose the CR123 battery route as they are more common and readily available.

Action Shots:

20150517_212104

The photo above is was taken in my back yard at night with no other light present other than the Sunwayman C22C.

The photo below was taken in the same area showing using a NEBO Redline 220 Lumen flashlight. The difference between the two lights is obvious and the C22C really outshines its NEBO competitor(pun intended).

20150517_212125

20150517_212249

Above the Sunwayman C22C shines approx 150 yards across the street to a neighbor’s house. They do have an outside light on.

Below the same house with the same outside light using the NEBO Redline.

Again – the C22C shows to be extremely powerful.

Summary

The Sunwayman is an excellent, compact, and extremely powerful flashlight and at a price of around $50 is a bargain. As of this writing it is available for $41.99.

Also – for a limited time – use coupon code “SunwaymanC22C” and the price will be reduced to $36.48 for ModernSurvivalOnline.com readers only.

High Recommendation.

Rugged Vehicles to Help You Survive an Emergency

By Cherie

The apocalypse may be far, but previews of it are happening all over the world right now. Both Japan and Nepal saw major earthquakes this year, California is facing its worst drought in more than a century and the world overcame an Ebola epidemic just last year. Combine that with political uncertainty in the United States and the need to prepare is more dire now than ever before.

So how can you prepare for anything? The essentials needed for severe drought aren’t the same for political unrest, but there is one constant that’s always guaranteed for any survival situation — the right vehicle.

Forget what you see on TV. Escaping the end days in a Bugatti Veyron looks sexy, but it’s not going to get you far (good luck finding a spare part for that car on the side of the road). But you also know you’ll never get around to building the zombie-proof bus from “Dawn of the Dead.” What you need is a realistic, obtainable rig for the road. Set pipe dreams aside and look out for these vehicles fit for survival:

Jeep Wrangler

The creme de la creme of survival machines, the Jeep Wrangler sits at the top of nearly every prepper’s essentials list. There are several factors that make the Wrangler an absolute no brainer in this category:

  • It goes everywhere. The Wrangler is so versatile that owners venture out to discover if there are places the Jeep can’t go. It falls short only to the Hummer 1 in off-road capability.
  • It’s cheap and available. Because the Wrangler is so popular, there are used models everywhere. Pre-owned dealerships and retailers like DriveTime have them for sale on lots all over the U.S., and many of them go for less than $10,000.
  • American versatility. Unlike that Bugatti, Chrysler (who owns Jeep) would have parts laying on every road and highway if it came down to a severe emergency.

Hummer H1

If you can find one, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, buy it. The Hummer H1 is the ultimate SUV in survival situations. In fact, calling it an SUV is an insult to the H1, which resembles more of a tank than a street-legal vehicle. It was good enough for Desert Storm, and it’s good enough for your driveway. The H1 can drive through deep water and automatically inflate and deflate air from the tires based on the terrain. And it sports a suspension so aggressive you feel like you could drive upside down.

Important Note: None of this applies to the Hummer H2, which is a hollow shell compared to the Hummer H1.

There are a dozen or more insane vehicles you can buy to survive the end of days, but most of them will either cost your life savings or are practically illegal to own. The Jeep Wrangler and Hummer H1 are staples for a reason — they’re reliable, relatively cheap and they work.

From the Desk of John Rourke – May 26th, 2015

Risk Assessment – something apparently I need to improve on.

A tree limb fell and pierced the roof of my shed. I decided to climb up on the shed, remove the large limb, and place a tarp over the area to protect it during rain storms. The ladder I own I found was just a bit short. Did that stop me? Hell no I am a man and I must conquer!! I climbed the ladder, placed my foot on a nearby tree to give me a boost – and up on the roof I went.

…..and down on the ground I fell.

Sometimes risk assessment escapes us. I was told that most men fail to develop the ability to assess risk until around age 25. We believe we are invincible and nothing will happen. As we get older we value our life more and our experiences tell us that we are fragile beings. I guess I reverted back to my teenage years thinking nothing would happen – but if it did no problem! I would simply do a double backflip, bounce off the tree and gently land on my feet due to my years of ninjitsu training.

Oh well – some soreness and a minor headache.

Hmmmm…..wonder if I can still skateboard?

Here is the view I had laying on the ground:

Creating a raised bed garden

Rourke: This post originally appeared HERE on ModernSurvivalOnline.com.

I recently made a second raised bed garden to add to my fruit and vegetable growing capabilities. Living in a typical suburban neighborhood my space is limited. In this particular case I built this raised bed for blueberry and blackberry plants.

Supplies ready.

Blueberries ready for planting.

I purchased some blueberry plants at SAM’s – hoping they survive the project.

All side boards are cut – ready to get screwed together.

2×4 cut into sections for corner support.

All 4 sides connected.

My incredible wood-working skills at play…..I made a box!!

2×4 pieces screwed in corners for support.

To provide great rigidity the 2″x4″ pieces are installed into each corner.

Done!!!!!

I added a variety of peat moss, composted cow manure and top soil to the raised bed – and planted the blueberries. I use rain water from my rain barrel to water the plants whenever possible. Also – to raise the acidity of the soil – I am going to mulch the bed with pine needles. Hopefully next year I will have fresh blueberries.

Raised beds provide some great advantages to your gardening efforts (more later in another post).

Take care all –

Rourke

Lucid Dreaming | Help! I can't transition RC's in real life to my dream state!

I had just gotten back into LD and my dream journal is looking good. Each night I can remember 2-3 long and detailed dreams.

I RC about 5 times a day in this order:

Palm through hand
Plug my nose
Count my fingers

However every time I'm in a dream, I never actually RC which leads to me not gaining lucidity. Any suggestions?! Thanks ahead of time!

Video of the Week: EMP Trash Can Faraday Cage Testing in Lab

video-of-the-week

YouTube is an absolutely incredible source of information on almost anything you can think of. Every week we feature a new video related to a variety of topics such as firearms, first aid, gardening, security, food storage, water filtration….and current events.

Capt. Michaels recently suggested this YouTube regarding EMP protection. Good stuff as it suggests an inexpensive but apparently effective method for protection. Here is the thing though and I have repeatedly stated this numerous times before : No one truly knows what will work until an EMP event actually occurs.

I like the method described in the video. An additional step I would recommend is to have additional protection inside the galvanized trash can. An example of this would be to place electronic components inside an additional metal container and then place that inside the trash can.

Lucid Dreaming | Possibly a new reality check?

I can't try it yet but if anyone who becomes lucid can you try it? Since hands in dreams are rubbery and you can put your finger through your hand, what if you could do a discreet RC by pulling at your skin to see if it stretches?? I think it could work!

Homemade MRE?

First off – let me say that what I am about to describe does not replace a military-type MRE. Military MRE’s are superior to “home made” MRE’s in many ways.

For those on a budget – there is an alternative to military MRE’s – and they are sitting on your local grocery store shelf. They are called Hormel Compleats Meals.

Hormel Compleats are a tub-packed fully cooked food item. They can be eaten directly from the package cold or they can be heated. Typical method for heating is the microwave oven. They can also be heated via boiling water. At around $2.00 each – many can be stocked for little money.

compleats

These pre-packed meals average around 300 calories each- so they lag behind military MRE’s by quite a bit. Being able to fully satisfy one’s caloric intake during a TSHTF events is important – however these meals do not contain a huge amount of energy. When TSHTF, it’s important to keep in perspective that grocery stores will quickly run out of stock and without electricity refrigerated foods with also quickly expire.

These Compleats meals have an expiration date printed on the packaging. Typically I find freshly-stocked product to have an expiration date of around 2 years out. This is something else that military MRE’s have an advantage – longer shelf life.

To make a homemade MRE – take one of these meals –  add some candy, salt/pepper packets, snack/nutrition bar, couple packs of crackers, Gatorade packet, chewing gum, pack of matches, napkin, and a plastic spoon. Vacuum pack everything together – and you have a Homemade MRE.

These meals have their place in a survival food storage system. They can be especially useful for use in your bug out supplies.

Give ’em a try.
